Our client is a supplier of custom glass and plastic packaging to the pharmaceutical & healthcare, beauty & personal care, food & beverage, and household & industrial industries throughout the United States.

Job Description

The Packaging Engineer will be responsible for managing packaging design, build, and decorating projects. This is a high visibility role that will provide successful new package development guidance through effective utilization of technical background to validate component and tooling design. Day to day responsibilities include the following:

  • Source, plan, and direct activities concerned with design and development of packaging components primarily for custom bottle molds and the decorating of components.
  • Develop or directs development of sketches, specifications, samples, and written analysis of proposed packaging in order to present design for customer approval.
  • Analyze engineering drawings and specifications of component to determine required physical characteristics of item, special-handling and quality requirements, and type of materials required for package.
  • Conduct preliminary testing, verify test reports, verify specifications, and related testing and/or verification of technical information.
  • Prioritize projects and appropriately minimize project (concept to creation) development time.· Develop RFQ – ready technical engineering databases and drawings of injection-molded components and blow-molded components including but not limited to packages, closures, and dispensing systems.
  • Review tool and part engineering databases and drawings for accuracy, ensuring they meet customer needs and requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records on each project to allow for tracking and summarizing of development information.
  • Provide decorating templates to customers and review customer’s artwork to determine if machine feasible.
  • Assist sales and purchasing in qualifying components’ fit and function, decorating quality, and meeting drawing specification.
  • Readily available to travel, assist, and aid customers with the approval process of qualifying tools and decorating components.

The Successful Applicant

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Packaging, Mechanical Engineer, or related education with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in Packaging Industry.
  • Ability to problem solve and find solutions to projects.
  • Deep expertise in SolidWorks >2009
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Application suite
  • Working knowledge of injection molding, injection blow molding, injection stretch blow molding and extrusion blow molding.
  • Working knowledge of decorating processes from spraying, silk screening, hot stamping, shrink sleeve, pad printing, and labeling is a plus.
  • Must have familiarity of material properties such, HDPE, MDPE, LDPE, PET, PVC, AL, METALS, etc.
  • Familiarity with ASTM, ISTA, cGMP is a bonus
  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations. Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Work will require vehicular and air travel to clients and manufacturing facilities. Participation in marketing events such as seminars, trade shows, and telemarking events.

What’s on Offer
